This is Kai Kanani's most popular trip and the one that puts you on the reef when the sun is directly overhead - the hour when the colors of the coral and the 250-plus species of fish at Molokini actually show up. The 65-foot catamaran loads off Maluaka Beach in Mākena, the closest launch point to the crater, then snorkels a second site along the Mākena coast where Hawaiian green sea turtles feed.
Two snorkel stops, food and drinks aboard, and round-trip transportation from your hotel, so nobody in your party has to drive or park.
Honest trade-off: by mid-morning the trade winds are usually building, so the water inside the crater is not as glassy as it is at sunrise. You are trading the calmest conditions for the best light and a civilized wake-up time. If flat water matters more to you than light, book the Sunrise Deluxe.
