Wailea & South Maui: Luxury, Beaches & Sunshine

Maui's sun-drenched southern coast

Wailea is where luxury resorts meet pristine beaches and near-guaranteed sunshine. Discover what makes south Maui a world-class destination.

Five Beaches, One Beautiful Path

Wailea's crown jewel is its 1.5-mile oceanfront beach path connecting five stunning beaches: Mokapu, Ulua, Wailea, Polo, and Po'olenalena. Each has its own character, from the family-friendly Wailea Beach to the more secluded Po'olenalena. Walking this path during golden hour, with the ocean glittering on one side and manicured resort gardens on the other, is one of Maui's great free pleasures.

South Maui sits in the rain shadow of Haleakala, receiving significantly less rainfall than the west side. This means near-guaranteed sunshine and warm, dry conditions year-round. When Ka'anapali is cloudy, Wailea is often bathed in sunlight.

World-Class Resorts and Dining

The Four Seasons Resort Maui, Grand Wailea, Andaz Maui, and Fairmont Kea Lani define luxury hospitality in Hawaii. Even if you are not staying at one of these properties, their restaurants and spas are open to the public. Ka'ana Kitchen at the Andaz is a farm-to-table standout, while Spago at the Four Seasons brings Wolfgang Puck's culinary vision to an oceanfront setting.

The Shops at Wailea offer upscale retail, dining, and regular live entertainment. Wednesday evenings feature a popular sunset market with local artisans and food vendors.

Nearby Adventures

Makena (Big Beach) lies just south of Wailea and is one of Maui's largest and most beautiful beaches, with powerful shorebreak that experienced bodysurfers love. Further south, La Perouse Bay marks the end of the road and the site of Maui's last volcanic eruption (1790). The Hoapili Trail here traverses a dramatic lava field along the coast.

Wailea is also the closest resort area to Molokini Crater, making morning snorkel tours from nearby Ma'alaea Harbor incredibly convenient. During whale season, the waters off Wailea are prime whale watching territory.
